This is a place where I will post various writing projects off and on. I just kind of wanted a place that works better for certain things than Bluesky or other social medias do.

I'm using the most stripped-back formatting possible because I prefer this style.

UPDATES

July 3, 2025

Pretend this news post came out on Monday, when I finalized the guide and actually posted it.

June 30, 2025
Finally finished that Quest 64 Fire/Wind Only Challenge Guide! I think I did an alright job here. My style-sheet usage is super basic but I prefer this stripped-back aesthetic anyway. Every second to third website nowadays is horribly overdesigned and looks like total shit.

Uh, maybe one day I'll do more of these for other weird stuff in games.

June 26, 2025

Wow. It took me over a week to get this thing done. I guess I just had to write a bunch of extra words... And as usual I was just absolutely awful at finally sending it home.

But I've finally opened up a page for a fun-time project I've been calling "The WORST UB Secret Lairs Ever!" in my typical slightly-overboard self-deprecating manner. This page is all about making little Magic: The Gathering card sets for characters from non-Magic: The Gathering media that mimic the structure of an existing subset of Magic's "Secret Lair" sub-brand. As a rule these are mostly for things I couldn't see Magic "crossing over" with (more on the quotes someday).

For those wondering about when I'll actually have the promised guide for the Quest 64 Fire/Wind Only Challenge... well, I done goofed and I accidentally deleted my original draft. I'm pretty near done with the current incarnation of the guide, mostly just need to fill in some info about enemies (admittedly, there's a not-small amount of that to be done) and a couple of other tiny little tidbits. Check back at the end of the month!

Probably won't get the other thing I wanted to finish finished by the end of the day, but for now: "The D-List" is the first entry in that card games section!

So, this might need some explanation for those not super-entrenched in nerd garbage. Back in the late 90s, Wizards of the Coast introduced a Magic: The Gathering expansion called "Unglued," which consisted entirely of joke cards that were not legal in most formats, even when their effects were perfectly workable under Magic rules and wouldn't require weird judge calls. But so it went for decades, through multiple joke sets. Even with set design becoming modernized and more and yet more cards being added that play just fine under the actual rules, with some not even being particularly exotic in their design.

This all changed with the latest joke set "Unfinity," which featured all cards in pure black border, with some of them even being deemed actually tournament-legal; everything that wasn't going to be allowed in "normal" formats had an acorn-shaped stamp on the card instead. Unfortunately, no old silver-bordered cards, not even ones that would be just fine - inoffensive, vanilla even - in "regular Magic" were changed to be made legal. The D-List is something of an attempt to rectify this; a list of cards that I think would be perfectly legal inside the regular Magic rules (with only a few minor tweaks necessary!). This list is set up to be something you can use as a house rule set for more casual environments if you want to. If nothing else, I guess it was fun to dig through to see just how off-beat those first two joke sets were.

Finally! I added an actual page as the landing for that Card Games section! I'll be adding some stuff later today. For now, anticipation!

By my standards, this update is coming in quite fast!

This one's about a very hard challenge in an N64 RPG! Not the hardest, I've heard of one that's significantly worse, but I've never done that and literally didn't hear about it until right near the end of my run of this. (Said challenge is so ridiculous that you should not expect me to check it out any time soon.)

(What might be fair to expect from me at some point is a guide to this challenge. But I'm a very slow writer anyway, so it'll take a bit.)

I have a few things unfinished that I need to get to, but for today, a review of that new Sleep Token album. I don't even like this band but I somehow keep getting pushed into listening to them. I need to wash this down, at least on this website, with something about a band I actually enjoy. I've been working on a thing about the Alice in Chains album Dirt. Maybe finishing that will make me feel better, which is odd to consider because it's such a depressing album.

Or I could write about something that's not music for a change...

April 29, 2025

Not much special to say about this, except I wrote this little essay about Blue Öyster Cult's album Secret Treaties and the use of ironic fascist imagery - just as a thing, building off of that album because it does that.

Actually, I will say something special about this: I usually hate to pat my own back, but I wanted to discuss this for a bit, and if I do say so myself, I did a bang-up job here. It's rare that I'm proud of my work. But I've been increasingly more so about things here. Maybe because I feel like I have less to "prove" here or whatever other goofy-ass nonsense you could possibly have to say here. This. One. Is. Good. (In my opinion, anyway.)

Just writing whatever the hell comes to mind is fun! I wish it paid the bills, but whatever.

April 23, 2025

Wow! I apparently haven't finished anything in absolute donkey's years. By my standards, anyway.

So, two things:

I'm probably also going to go back and date all the previouse stuff I wrote. Just for personal reference if nothing else.

April 4, 2025

It's 6:15 AM when I'm writing this. As in, I haven't slept yet. Why? Good question. But I did finally finish and upload my most recent video. That's over on my YouTube channel. It's about the final boss of Final Fantasy IX! You probably won't hate it!

But in news related to things on this website: I wrote a review of Sleep Token's newest single, "Caramel." I don't think it works, but I gave it what I think is a fair chance.

March 19, 2025

Over the weekend, I injured my shoulder. While I was asleep! It makes me feel like such an idiot to do that! I wasn't doing anything! Anyway, it hurt for all of Sunday and Monday and most of Tuesday. It's Wednesday, I feel better. I need to get off my butt and record vocals for my next video sometime soon. I've just been lazy as hell the last few days even for things that don't require a lot of shoulder action.

Regardless, I finally added in a crude little navigation thing at the bottom of my posts. There are better ways to do this but I don't remember what they are offhand, so once I remember how to do that, maybe this webzone will be a little more functional - just probably even less so on your phone. Yes, I did look at this on my phone a little, but everything looks very very badly formatted on a phone. Sorry. The odds of me changing it any time soon are not super likely, though. Wait until you get to a regular computer to read this website! It's not like there's any interactivity here and you don't need to use it that much on the go!

March 15, 2025

Happy Ides of March! Perhaps Brutus came down your chimney and left a nice dagger under your tree.

I wrote something "new"! "New" in air-quotes because this is just a retooled old rant I ranted at a friend months ago. It's about the Magic: The Gathering card that makes me the saltiest of them all!

March 14, 2025

Wow, I don't remember a lot of HTML anymore. Well, that's okay.

I moved links to a separate page and am starting on other stuff. So I can not only have some sense of organization, but so I can post stuff eventually and maybe I'll have something interesting written here.
